“It is not enough for the teacher to love the child. She must first love and understand the universe. She must prepare herself, and truly work at it.” ― Maria Montessori
In the beginning of each Montessori school year the children are invited to the first of five Great Lessons. It is a lesson that will set the stage for all that is to come at the Journey School. It will guide both their academics and adventures. The first Great Lesson is called the Coming of the Universe and is told with music, drama, mystery, and experiments. The goal is not to entertain or even teach, really. The goal is to inspire: to spark the imaginations of young mathematicians and poets and to ignite the creativity in young artists and scientists.
